My approach to counselling
At the heart of my approach to counselling is the therapeutic relationship. My training was in integrative counselling that values the counselling relationship as being the very foundation from which we can grow. I work differently with each person to build a trusting, non-judgemental relationship so that those I work with can open up without fear of being judged, dismissed or criticised. I integrate within my work the approach of psychosynthesis which explores the different parts of our selves and the way in which they shape how we feel inside as well as how we relate to others. If we are more aware of our defences and how they affect us we can then go on to nurture new ways of being that we may not have realised before.

My inspiration to become a counsellor
My curiosity towards the area of counselling grew from my ongoing search for what it is that leads to experience that sense of not being okay. Through my own experience I had noticed my own defensive parts and wanted to understand these in more depth, rather than judging myself. As a counsellor I am constantly learning about the depth of human experiences and am drawn to helping my clients to compassionately explore and understand their lives. I see in this counselling relationship a unique kind of sup-port that is not conditional; is free of judgement and pressure which encourages a more genuine expression of how we truly feel. This is my inspiration to practice counselling.

Clients I work with
Young people and adults
I have 10 years experience working as a Counsellor and am able to support my clients in opening up to very sensitive and challenging issues whilst being sensitive to each individual. I started working as a Counsellor in the drug and alcohol field in 2006, which was very rewarding. I then went onto work for MIND for 3 years as a Counsellor with people experiencing mental health problems such as anxiety, depression or stress, where I also gained valuable experience. My current work in private practice for BCCG is more varied, working with clients experiencing a wide range of interpersonal and personal problems. I also work for a charity providing counselling for both men and women who have experienced domestic abuse.
