My approach to coaching

My approach to coaching is about helping you to find your way through difficulties or confusion, to achieve what you want.   Coaching is a conversation about you as an individual, what you want and ways of achieving it.  I draw on many years’ experience of working with others and management, leadership and building successful teams, as well as professional training and study of psychology and coaching to help you find your way forward.

"Neil helped me to clarify my thoughts and feelings and to see situations more clearly.  Most importantly Neil enabled me to find a way forward and to regain my confidence." Client feedback

My inspiration to become a coach

I have always been interested in how people develop and achieve their full potential. How we think about ourselves and our challenges can be the key to successful change. I believe that having the right conversation with a trained coach can be the best way to work through issues, gain clarity of purpose, get better at what we want to do and make progress towards whatever we want to achieve.

"A mixture of quiet, non-intrusive listening along with some prompting and some suggestions of tactics and strategies have helped me to understand and cope with a range of situations.  This has proved to be invaluable both in my working life and my personal life, enabling me to be a calm and confident leader." Client feedback

What I can help with

I particularly work with people around work-life issues.  Some examples of the kind of issues that coaching can help with are:

Career progression

Dealing with work-life transitions including redundancy and retirement

Responding to and managing change

Dealing with difficulties in professional relationships

Managing stress and work-life balance

Building confidence and working more effectively, including organization skills, effective communication and project management.

"At a very challenging point in my career I had changed role and moved to a new organisation and faced a number of issues, some related to my own ways of working and some related to my new environment.   Work Life Coaching enabled me to find a way forward and to regain my confidence." Client feedback

Types of coaching

Executive & Work-life coaching

"The fact that we meet and discuss progress has resulted in me seeing the changes through and things that were discussed weeks ago are now embedded within my working day." Client feedback

How I deliver coaching

Face to face meetings near Sheffield city centre or at your work premises.  On line by Skype or telephone.

"The coaching gave me insight and understanding that prompts me to reflect and challenge my views, behaviours and attitudes. Overall, I can sense a change in me and suspect it has been picked up by others around me too." Client feedback

Clients I work with

I work with professional people, managers and executives, business people and the voluntary sector.

I particularly work with people facing a challenge in developing their career, for example in mid-career or because of changes in their work or illness.

"It is rare to experience something which has the potential to open your eyes to the here and now and shape/influence your future development but I do feel this is the case in this instance and it could not have come at a better time for me." Client feedback

Coaching qualifications

I have very varied experience of managing people and organisations.  I have also undertaken study and professional training over many years in psychology, coaching and mentoring.  My qualifications include:

MSc Occupational Psychology, Birkbeck College, University of London

I offer an initial chat of up to half an hour free of charge so that we can decide if this coaching is the right course for you.

A first session will last up to an hour and a half and subsequent meetings between one hour and an hour and a half.  They take place when it is most suitable for you, typically once per month but sometimes more depending on what you want. It is not necessary to commit to a given number of sessions: usually there is substantial progress after between three and five sessions.

Coaching sessions are £60 per hour.
