My approach to coaching

My coaching is all about helping people fulfil their potential at work. I use a mixture of support, challenge and thought-provoking tools to help people work out their next career steps, and build skills and confidence in interview, job application and presentation skills.

My inspiration to become a coach

I used to work as a radio journalist – my favourite part of this work was interviewing people and finding out about their lives. But, I wanted to find a way of combining this passion with something that had a real impact on people’s lives. And, when I started to work in BBC Training and Development, I discovered the field of coaching. I went on to become a coach at the BBC and have since continued to work with people in all walks of life to make the most of their careers.

How I deliver coaching

I do my utmost to enable my coaching clients to:

Clarify what they want to get from the development

Speak honestly and thoughtfully about their situation

Come up with tangible steps to meeting goals

During a 1-1.5 hour coaching meeting, I will listen closely, ask thought-provoking questions, use effective tools and draw on psychological approaches, such as NLP, CBT, Gestalt. Most importantly, though, I aim to help clients to take actions that will help them thrive in their careers.

My background

I have been an independent coach and facilitator since 2011. Before that, I worked in Development and Wellbeing in HR at Sheffield Hallam University. Before that, I was a Learning and Development Consultant at the BBC. Before that, I worked as radio journalist at the World Service and Radio Sheffield. And before that, I studied French and Spanish at Sheffield University.
 

Coaching qualifications

Regular coaching supervision and CPD, member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), completed workshops on ILM Level 7 Executive Coaching and Mentoring, Certificate in NLP, Certificate in Person-Centred Counselling.
